    Superman and Bank Robbers

    Post  mikel.withers on November 13th 2014, 11:59 am

I've been listening to Theology Gaming a lot, and a phrase that I hear on occasion there, and strangely someplace else recently, is "You don't need Superman to stop bank robbers." Or " using Superman to stop a bank robbery."
So, what I've been thinking is: what happens if Superman decides that bank robbers are beneath his class, and so he creates an enemy for himself by allowing something bad to happen to someone in the bank being robbed. ..maybe a kid in there goes through a traumatic experience and then holds an all-consuming grudge against the guy in the cape who is supposed to be the one who rescues people from traumatic experiences.

I don't really get onboard with the original statement. The cool thing about Superman is he fights the cosmic baddies AND stops bank robbers. Sure, it's not usually the focus of his stories, but he does it. The first Superman movie is just one example.
