    Hubris bites me in the...finger

    Post  mikel.withers on December 1st 2014, 10:14 am

It was going to be easy. I just put two screws into the handle of the garbage bin, add some duct tape, and I can put off getting a new one for...awhile. True, I just let the Ministry Pastor borrow the drill, but the bin is plastic, I can just push hard and the screw will work its way through. I've done this stuff hundreds of times. Hey, I don't even need to put on the work gloves, the ones with the grippy palms and fingers, and sporting knuckle guards...no, that would be overkill for such a job.
...until the screwdriver slips and takes a good sized chunk out of the end of my finger.

Why am I writing this here? Well, this is what is on my mind...and that is the title of the forum. A throbbing, sharp, bitter pain that is only accentuated when I hit the exposed, raw flesh on something. ...or type: typing is unpleasant. So, not only am I a moron for hurting myself, I aggravate it more by writing about it. ...and then complain about it by writing about it more. Arrow

Later, while giving the senior pastor's office a thorough cleaning, while he is out of town, I broke the stand to one of his bass-fishing decorations.
I walked into my wife's office and said she should take me home, because it is obvious I shouldn't have gotten out of bed this morning.

    ...However...

A young couple contacted our church this morning because they were in a rush to get married: he is being deployed, if I understand what was said correctly. As I am the only adult in the building besides the youth pastor who would perform the ceremony, I stood in as witness. It was a very short, very sweet ceremony with the couple doing a whole lot of grinning.
    It made my day.

I suppose there is a lesson in there, about not giving up and all that ... ... jazz, but you'll have to find someone who learns lessons to pull it out of there.
