    "A warm wind from Minicoy."

The writers of the show really dug deep to find something this obscure. Sisko's attribution of the saying is close to the mark. The first record of a similar phrase I can find comes from Robert Louis Stevenson, in which a character opines that a warm wind from the island nearby presages a storm. The incident Sisko references most likely refers to a speech given in 1982 by the brother of the President of the country. The brother stated that Minicoy was part of the Maldives. This caused a minor diplomatic incident with India, who laid political claim to the island.

Well done. I guess this incident must have taken on some importance to have lead to an expression that is still remembered in the 24th century.

Wow. That is such a deep cut. History, politics, diplomacy.... yeah, definitely something classic Trek would be in to.
