Wow, that does look cool! But does Netflix do shows with full on nudity? Some of those shots make me a little nervous. In fact it might end up having too much skin for me either way.

And of course I don't have Netflix. (But my in-laws do and I may start binging as we visit them beginning this Christmas!)

I think they do. If you have VidAngel it ties into Netflix and can block the nudity.

BTW, have you thought about splitting the cost of Netflix with your family? You can have multiple simultaneous screens on a single account.

Not really. Our boys are more into youtube watching with maybe a few Amazon Prime shows in the mix, and that gives them PLENTY to watch. Holly is largely content to watch a few shows once or twice a year when we visit her family. And this coming vacation will be the first time I've even considered taking advantage of their Netflix while we were there.

So there's a little bit of interest, but it's quickly overshadowed by other things I like. It's possible I could justify my portion of the split cost as a business expense, but the SBP budget is already tight and I'm not sure I want to commit myself to keeping up with and talking about so many geek shows.

Never say "never", but that's where I am at the moment.

"The problem with living too many times is you stop fearing death."

I suspect another issue could be that you stop valuing life as a precious gift, and take it for granted.

Yes. This should be interesting if it doesn't devolve into a sex-fest, violence-fueled, sci-fi soap opera.

Space opera! I'll take some space-

Wait, soap. You said soap. Never mind.

Just read a review of this series. Looks like I'll be skipping it.

Perhaps influenced by the recent popularity of sexposition, Altered Carbon goes all-in on the nudity and f***ing, with nearly episode [sic] featuring some form of explicit sexual activity. This hits its nadir early on, when an encounter…goes from silly on every level—music, lighting, script—to almost pornographic. Those who admire Kinnaman’s physique will get to see a lot of it, but the constant nudity becomes downright distracting at times, and not in a good way. —The A.V. Club

Note: I added the asterisks, in the original article profanity is used (if that bothers you).

Whew... Man, this trend in premium TV is not going away, is it? I've been thinking about updating my content and making a new video on sex and nudity with some more detailed quotes from university studies on the effects of pornography. There is so much buzz and passion in the entertainment industry over sexual harassment in the workplace right now. It seems like this is the time when we could try to harness some of that liberal passion into finally looking at and reacting to objectification of women in media.

Definitely going to give this some more thought.

Sounds like a timely issue, Paeter.
    E. Stephen Burnett has written a bit at Speculative Faith about the effect these scenes have emotionally on the women who act in them.

I'd be interested! Do you have a link or remember the article title?

Thanks so much, Adam! Some great resources. I'll definitely be giving more thought to this issue, both personally and in terms of how I can talk about it productively.
