Some more plot details for Krypton

Post  AdamCollings on December 20th 2017, 5:51 pm

http://dccomicsmovie.com/krypton-to-premiere-sometime-in-march-2018/ wrote:Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson.

I wonder how this gritty Man of Steel prequel will play, now that the movies seem to be heading down the happy-jokey-smile-fest direction.

This sounds like the kind of show that I'll wait and maybe watch on Netflix after I've heard if it's any good or not.* I like Adam Strange. I don't always like prequels, especially when I already know that there will be a bad outcome for everyone in the end.

*Wait, that's true for every show anymore...

I hope it does end up on Netflix, because then I might have a chance of seeing it someday.

I was REALLY excited for this because:
    * Man of Steel is my favourite movie
    * I loved the portrayal of Krypton in the movie
    * The idea of exploring that version of Krypton in more detail over the course of a TV show sounded heavenly.

Not sure what to think about the time travel aspect. I love time travel. Just still trying to decide if it is necessary in this circumstance or not. It runs the risk of being the "temporal cold war" from Enterprise. I mean, we know ultimately how it's going to end. They won't change the future. But maybe, if they make a very dramatic journey of why Seg-el doesn't change the future, that could be compelling.

Anyway, I'll fork out money for this if it happens to make it to Blue-ray/DVD, although even that isn't guaranteed. And if it does, it'll probably be a year after it airs in America. It feels like the 90s again.

Is the main character named "Seg-El" because it kind of resembles "Siegel" (Jerry Siegel)?

    Looks like you're right.

Seyg-El's name is a derivation of Siegel, the surname of Superman co-creator, Jerry Siegel.

Although in the comics, his name was Seg-el.

Isn't this a CW show? Doubt it will be grim and gritty for long if it is. Or even if it's "serious" it will soon be spoiled (for me anyway) by shallow love (read: "physical attraction & sex") affairs that super-gramps struggles in angst between. My jadedness showing yet?

If not on the CW? Would LOVE a vibe like MoS Krypton. I'll take their Adam Strange. But if they want to tap into the DC Universe, I'd hope they'll introduce the Green Lantern Corps.

Yes, I too desire more Green Lantern. I can't believe there hasn't been more clamor about a Green lantern solo film, especially after that tease in Justice League.

I'm guessing the Ryan Reynolds movie is still in people's minds, which really didn't do justice to the potential of the GL concept in my opinion, despite being a fairly valid take on some facets of Hal Jordan. A Green Lantern Corps movie is still on the agenda, and although there have now been some changes among the higher ups overseeing DC movies (perhaps not the right changes, though. We'll see.) the same movies seem to still be on course for development, including "The Green Lantern Corps".

    Nope. Not CW

This series is officially part of the DCEU and is written by David S. Goyer who wrote Man of Steel and BVS.

What network will it air on?

It's being made by SyFy, so it'll air there (exclusively? Probably)
No word yet on availability in countries other than America.

SyFy? Hmmm. I haven't watched one of their shows since Sanctuary, and the special effects in that were so-so. Also, I associate them with stuff like Sharknado and the Asylum movies.

They've recovered a bit. I think The Expanse and one or two other fairly well-produced shows have been coming from them. We haven't had cable for years, so I haven't followed any of them. Looks like I'll be missing Krypton till home video, too.

I've been enjoying The Expanse on Netflix. It's pretty well done. It's gritty but doesn't stray into Game of Thrones porn territory.

Looks like we'll be waiting for that "home video" release together. And now, I'm having nostalgia for those big bulky plastic VHS cases, hired from the video store, with their ultra-eighties "home video" logos.
