    Captain Marvel Trailer

Post  Rickster on September 19th 2018, 2:59 pm

Here is the first trailer to the next MCU Movie Captain Marvel

I find it interesting that they didn't have the usual joke at the end of trailer that Marvel and may other trailer seem to do now a days

I'm digging the concept of several past-lives converging into the present (1980s). The costume looks 100% CG. Neutral

My daughter asked me if I think we'll see Fury lose his eye in this movie.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of the flashes of different ages. A convergence of past lives she doesn't remember.
Hmm, that might help to explain why she hasn't been a member of The Avengers until now. Maybe she's only just now "re-awakening" or something.

I think it would almost be disappointing if we don't see him lose the eye.

I'm excited. I think I might actually make the effort to see this one in the theater, even if I have to go alone. We'll see what temperament the baby is in this spring.

Hmm. Something about Brie Larson isn't reading as strong or as tough as I'd like. Her voice maybe? But I had real doubts about Gal Gadot's casting, so maybe the direction will make the difference in the end.

Sci-fi space action? Sure, sign me up! Definitely not sure about the mohawk, though.

Brie portrayal comes across very flat to me.

Past lives seems very unlikely. I think what we're seeing is Carol remembering her childhood, which memories were erased either deliberately or through trauma. From watching the trailer, it looks like Carol encounters MarVell during her service in the Air Force and nearly gets killed. He (or someone) brings her back to Hala where the Kree implant her with Kree genes in order to save her life and this imbues her with cosmic power. The Kree then use her as a weapon against the Skrulls and she winds up on Earth again pursuing Skrull provocateurs.

That's just what I got from the trailer.

I expect the movie will be a version of Secret Invasion, where Carol is trying to keep the Skrulls from taking over the Earth to use it as a staging ground in the war. I'm hoping for a condensed version of Kree-Skrull war from the 80s, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm *really* hoping we get a Hank Pym Ant-Man appearance in the movie, as he was working for SHIELD at the time I think.

I'm very interested to see how they are going to set her up for Endgame. Thanos was originally created to be MarVell's ultimate villain, foe MarVell defeated by using Thanos' own character flaws because he was physically too strong to beat. This has been the pattern with Thanos in the comics. He's too strong to kill. He's too smart to outwit. You have to defeat him morally. When Jim Starlin writes him, it's genius. Of course, the movie version is a bit different, with a different story archetype.
