    Seeking Truthful Advice.

Post  Enna on July 5th 2010, 8:05 pm

I am here to ask a question. I have a friend who is falling away from God and I have taken the first three steppes I can think of. 'Pray, Be a good friend,Act and speak in a way that praises God.' But I do not know what to do next, do you have some Ideas? Question

All we can do is pray and try to be a light unto them. I will add my prayers to yours to make your drawing power for God stronger and to lead your friend back to God. We do what we can and count on God to do the rest. I know you feel helpless, but that is when God requires us to rely on Him. Trust, Obey and Believe.

    Hey Enna,

Sorry I missed this post before now. I think "cowboy" gave you some solid advice. I think as you invest in that friendship you'll earn their respect and trust and God will provide those opportunities to talk about the truth.

I've sometimes made the mistake of thinking "When can we have THE TALK?" all the time with non-Christian friends. But forcing that has always been unproductive. But if you're praying for wisdom in your words and timing and being a good friend, I'm convinced God will provide those moments between you. And your friend may even be the one to initiate them!

Hang in there. God will use you.

    Smile

You can only do so much, the rest is up to God and to your friend.

Be the best friend you can be, and the best Christian you can be.

Hi. I just had a conversation with a pastor at my church that is similar to your situation. I'm not in the same situation, but know that someday I'll be there.

His advice was fairly sound, I think, so I'd like to share the basic idea of what he said. And it was simply this (paraphrased); don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk. Okay, he didn't say it quite like that, but that's the best way to do it.

You say your friend is falling away from God. I will deduce that he or she has had some exposure to a Christian upbringing. Beside what you've already done, I would simply encourage you to continue living the life outwardly that shows your relationship with Christ is strong, and differs greatly from those who don't have one. Don't try to force any specific words out, God will provide the right ones when He sees they are needed. And most times, you won't even know you said them.

If your friend is slipping away, they'll hopefully see how positive you live your life while staying with God, and that may be enough to make them realize they need to come back.

Prays are with you and your friend.
