What about doing an iPhone game as an alliance project?

Sounds cool! I don't know how I could contribute, but I'm definitely in support of the idea if some other people can provide know-how! I'm happy to help however I can!

I know this is a little on the old but...

Post  WuLongTi on August 18th 2011, 8:41 am

I would be very interested in this type of en-devour. These days my iPhone is my primary gaming device so I've got a fair amount of experience in what does and doesn't work on the device. Professionally I'm a web developer and a whiz at HTML(5), CSS(3), PHP(5), MySQL and jQuery. I'm also highly adept with Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and DreamWeaver (all programs/versions up to CS5 and a working familiarity with Soundbooth). I used to be good w/ Flash in the Macromedia days but I haven't gotten around to upgrading my skills to ActionScript3 yet. Oh, and I also draw and do a wide range of voices if that helps Smile

I just found the Alliance this morning and it looks like you guys are doing some awesome stuff!

Hey man, welcome to the club!

I have some experience with HTML CSS VB.net (very basic)

Right now I have been studying obj-C in my spare time. I have one app that I have developed on the store. I tried doing a game once but wasn't experienced enough in obj-C to make much of it. I think I could handle it now...

I've got zero XP in ObjC so you've got me on that one. I've been looking into ways to build games using javascript and then compile them into an app using things like appcelerator or phonegap but I haven't done much more than research them yet. I'm also in the research/brainstorming phase w/ a few mates on building an MMO that's entirely browser based and requires no additional plugins or flash. My goal is to make something that will run on desktops as well as on tablets and provide a valuable addition in the form of mobile for the tabletop version of the game. It's all in the mindmap phase right now though and feels very ambitious...

In regards to making an iPhone app on XP you could use something like MultiMedia Fusion 2 and buy their iPhone exporter. Of course you still need a mac running Xcode to compile the game...

Your mom sounds cool but out of my league Very Happy I'm not that into the web development stuff... One language at the moment is enough for me to tackle scratch

well... I meant XP as in Experience Points.. but I am running windows at any rate. (Win7 pro). Yeah it's cause of that forced requirement to compile on a mac that makes me want to develop a web app instead of a proprietary iOS one. Plus then I don't have to worry about all of apple's BS TOS policies that they change on a whim.

If we were to make a web app that was accessible from any mobile browser then it would be fine for iPhone, android, blackberry, etc...

Hackmodford wrote:Personally I would love a spirit blade RPG Very Happy
That would be pretty awesome. The story already lends itself to different player classes... and if you throw in the mechanic of shifting from spirit realm to physical like in Soul Reaver then that could make for some really interesting game play options....

I can tell you right now that they are a heck of a lot easier than objC or iOS SDK. Especially when using game specific libraries like craftyjs (dot com) or effectgames (dot com).

Also, javascript has a much smaller learning curve than languages like C or java.

Oh, and they can be compiled into a native app for any of the smart devices using appcelerator if you guys really want them in the app stores. (of course then you're bound by their respective TOS)

Holy crap this gave me the biggest laugh of the week!

It's also the only thing I've understood while reading through this thread. Lots of foreign abbreviations and crazy tech talk. You guys are some awesome smart.

I'm game for you guys using the Spirit Blade Intellectual Property. Just keep me in the loop and let me give it the final green light before release. Otherwise, have at it and have fun! And let me know if I can be of any help, of course!

I'm no coder and I don't know about the details, but I'm pretty sure that Android apps are just Java apps.

Thought I'd inject some "producing" in here to keep the wheels turning.

So what's the vision and what kind of skill sets do we need? What skills sets do you guys each bring and which ones would we need to recruit to see something happen?

Well... I'm a beginner iPhone Programmer.

In addition to programmers we'd need.

    Graphic Artist
    Music Artist

    Beta Testers

Do you need original music, or is licensed/royalty free music an option?
What kind of responsibilities would the graphic artist have?

In regards to music I guess it depends on the project.

if we did a tap tap game (think rock band) we could use your songs

If we did an RPG we would need music (maybe the music you used in the actual radio drama)

The artist would be doing all artwork used in the game (sprites, backgrounds, etc.)

Okey doke. Please don't feel like you guys have to do a game with the Spirit Blade IP. But I'd be happy to provide the music if you did. Could possibly do sound design, too.

I haven't done any real programming in years now, but I do have an iPad to test on! I do like the idea....If you are going for something simple I've seen lots Mario "remakes" for NES emulators. I think you basically use the engine and change the grapics. Some pull it off pretty well too. Not sure you could port it to the iOS but you never know!
